Dr. Wolf-Gideon Bleek

Wolf-Gideon Bleek graduated in computer science and holds a doctoral degree in computer science in the field of "software infrastructure development". In 1997 he joined the Informatics Department of the University of Hamburg, Germany as a research assistant. Since 2001 he has held a position equivalent to assistant professor at the Software Engineering Group. He has several years of experience in constructing and designing object-oriented software in an industrial context, most notably in the telecommunication business sector. Moreover, he frequently works as a consultant for software development projects. His main research interests include web-application development, infrastructure development, web-based learning systems and application service providing. He is involved in teaching object-oriented application development at the undergraduate and graduate level. Recent research projects include the development of a nation-wide web-portal for students in Germany, the development of a web-based learning environment for project-based work, the development of a city web-portal and the establishment of an infrastructure for a newly founded university.

For the winter semester of 2004 he was a visiting scholar at the University of Washington in Seattle and at Microsoft Research, Redmond. From August until November 2007 he was a visiting scholar at the IT University, Copenhagen, Denmark.

He is co-author of the book "Object-Oriented Construction Handbook" (Morgan Kaufman, 2004) and he is author of a number of programming and computing textbooks. Recently, he has published a German textbook on the introduction of agile software development ("Agile Softwareentwicklung - Werte, Konzepte und Methoden") together with Henning Wolf.

As coordinator of the "Softwaretechnik Center" he is responsible for establishing and managing close co-operation with local companies to ensure technology transfer.
